Description:
A fast-paced
adventure between man, creature and the harsh elements of the Canadian
Tundra
Inside Jacket Flap:
When fourteen-year-old Iksik travels to the town of the
Kablunait (white men) for supplies, he accidentally angers a powerful
Nattilik witch. The witch swiftly curses Iksik, and he unwittingly
spreads the curse to his village. Strange things begin to happen, and
unnatural beasts, thought to be legends, bring death and hardship to the
already-struggling tribe. The village shaman sends Iksik and his younger
cousin, Kiviok, on a journey to find the witch, hoping the young men can
bribe her with gifts to lift the curse. Kiviok also has a secret ability
that may help them defeat a strange beast that pursues them
the entire journey. Will the young men be able to successfully navigate
through the treacherous lands and hostile encounters
to ensure the survival of the Ihalmiut people?
Back Cover:
Iksik ran to his cousin's
side, grabbing up the wolf head harpoon. At the curve in the trail a
large shadow cascaded over the rocks... They heard the loud panting of
the beast just before it rounded the corner, staring straight at them. A
light breeze brought the overwhelming stench of its body. It was the
smell of a beast that slept in its own filth. The long shaggy hair
covering its massive chest was layered with the dried blood of old
kills...
