Teresa Saari, children’s literacy
advocate and
author of
Imogene
of the Pacific
Kingdom and Dager
of the Tasman Empire, currently lives in a
community west of
Edmonton, Alberta
with her husband of fifteen years, and three children.
She wouldn’t trade small town living for anything in the world.
She was born in
Duncan, British Columbia
and lived in Lake Cowichan
until shortly after her sixteenth birthday.
Taking time out for annual visits to
Vancouver Island
is still a must in her busy schedule, as she has a lot of family and
friends who still reside there.
Writing became one of the main focuses of Teresa’s
life only a few years ago, when her eldest daughter, then ten couldn’t
find anything to read that sparked her interest.
She sat down at the keyboard and began to type.
At first she was unsure whether or not it would become a story
suitable for that particular age group, but after many rewrites and months
of editing, her persistence paid off.
“Creating the character, Imogene
was an exciting experience for the girls and me.
She became such a big part of our lives during the actual writing
that the girls would even come home from school and ask, how’s
Imogene? She couldn’t
have been more real for any of us, if she’d been sitting right there in
the office next to me.” By
the end of January 2004, there were on the average four copies of Imogene
in thirteen Cole’s/Smithbooks outlets in and around the
Edmonton
area.
Allbooks Reviews, listed as one of Writer’s Digest
top 101 websites for writers has chosen Imogene
of the Pacific Kingdom for the Editor’s Choice Award for 2004, under
the children’s fiction category.
Teresa has been featured on radio stations across Canada
and on CTV. She regularly
submits articles of interest to a local newspaper and is thrilled to
announce that book three is currently underway.
She is not yet ready to divulge what the third installment in her
series is about.
Book two; entitled Dager
of the Tasman Empire was released on
December 16th, 2004
. It has so far received two
reviews, both rating five out of five stars.
At present both books can be found at Audrey’s books,
Greenwood’s Bookshoppe, Carvel General Store, as well as
